NORTHCLIFF BALLET STUDENT NEHANDA PEGUILAN'S STAR CONTINUES TO RISE

15 November 2017

Reddford House Northcliff student and rising ballet star, Grade 11 pupil Nehanda Peguilan, has had quite a year. Nehanda studies ballet as a school subject and is excelling beautifully in her chosen discipline.

Nehanda qualified for the prestigious annual International Ballet and Choreography Competition (IBCC) finals, held in Beijing this year from 1-13 August 2017. Considered to be as one of the top ballet competitions, she made it through to the semi-finals whilst facing stiff competition.  During her time in the Chinese metropolis, she also had the opportunity to receive training and tuition from some of the world’s best ballet teachers. She describes her overall experience as “unforgettable and amazing.” She adds, “I got to learn a lot from the teachers and dancers. I made many new friends from around the globe and got to learn about their cultures and languages.

On 5th September she performed for her Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) examination as was awarded an incredible 98%. This achievement was followed by her participation in an international ballet gala at Mountain Cambridge School and Mosaiek Teatro, in a show called“When Ballet Meets Jazz” at Johannesburg’s Market Theatre, and in a competition hosted by the East Rand Festival, among other performances. Nehanda competed in the Contemporary and Ballet Awards on 15th October and was awarded as both a runner-up in her category and overall runner-up in the competition. On 29th October, Nehanda then competed in the RAD Bursary, and was also selected as runner-up.

It has been a full and enriching year full of experiences and achievements and we know Nehanda’s star will continue to rise as she goes from strength to strength. All of us at Reddford House Northcliff are very proud of her incredible achievements.
